Dear Community, Thanks to you, I attended a 9 day nonviolent communication (NVC) intensive training last week. I wouldn’t have attended if it weren’t for you, because some 6 months ago halfway through writing YOU an email about my love for #Communication and my interest in how to have better hard conversations, I paused writing, went and looked up NVC, and registered for their spring training in Palos Verdes. Exciting news: I LOVED IT!!! Hanging out with 75 communication nerds who also want to grow their skills in conflict resolution?? YES PLEASE! Most people at the training had more exposure to NVC than I did. I was a true newbie and I really enjoyed getting this intensive immersion introduction to the framework, approach, and consciousness. My favorite moments fit into 2 categories. 1.) When there was authentic conflict that arose in the room and I got to witness one of the trainers skillfully navigate it. 2.) When I was having a regular ol’ conversation with a new NVC friend processing something real for me and they would whip out some NVC tool on me and it would totally shapeshift the conversation and my approach to exploring my material. I don’t feel ready to write a newsletter about the content - I’m still landing from the experience and what’s next for me is integrating what I’ve learned, putting it into practice and developing more of a personal relationship with it before I attempt to skillfully share about it. …but lemme just say: I’m into it. Wholeheartedly. Typically I’m attending trainings where I’m learning a skill that I’m going to immediately apply to my professional practice - but this is a broad stroke training that is going to touch all areas of my life. It’s exciting! I could totally see myself teaching NVC workshops later down the line. I like how easy and effortless it is for me to see that vision. If you too are into NVC, please reply to this email so that I know we have some common language and understanding that we might be able to enjoy when we are in contact with one another!!!
